Church of the Highlands
Pastor Layne Schranz has been on staff at Church of the Highlands since the beginning of the church in 2001. Church of the Highlands, based in Birmingham, Alabama, with more than twenty campuses across the state and one in Columbus Georgia. His family relocated from Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he spent several years working as the president of one of the nation’s most successful towing and recovery companies. Once at Highlands he pioneered Student Ministries as well as Highlands College which now has over 1000 students in ministry training. He also served as the first campus pastor that paved the way for the multi-site approach at Highlands. Layne is on the Executive Leadership Team of Highlands and oversees the Highlands Campuses. As a hobby, Layne is a professional race car driver competing annually in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. He is a 4 time champion of the world renowned race. In 2019 he set his personal best time in the race by climbing the mountain in a blistering 9 minutes and 40 seconds. Well recognized and respected companies Valvoline and GEICO have been partners with Layne for many years for the race. He and his wife, Rachel, have been married since 1996 and have two daughters, Ashlyn and Devyn.
