Insights From Sam Chand
LEADERSHIP PAIN
- You will grow only to the threshold of your pain.
LEADERSHIP FITNESS
- Maintaining better leadership health comes down to marriage and money.
- Marriage
- Not your family, your marriage.
- Are you growing together?
- Academically, recreationally, and emotionally
- Money
- Income streams
- Insurance
- Working toward being debt-free
- Challenges to maintaining healthy marriage and money
- Who are your friends?
- Where do you go together to grow?
- How transparent are you about money?
- Money planning: The best decision Sam made was to consult a financial planner.
- Hire a professional.
- Find a fiduciary (their interests do not come before yours).
- Choose a fee-based (not a percentage-based).
- Believe and follow them, or choose someone else.
"BALANCE" IN MINISTRY
- Ministry comes in spurts.
- People don’t schedule crises.
- As balanced as you are, there are spurts of ministry that fall out of balance.
- Lean into the moments with family. Make deposits when you can.
- Build margin into your life.
- What do you need to do differently?
- What do you need to change about yourself? (Self-perceptions)
- Who are the new voices you need and who are the old voices you need to diminish?
KEYS TO NAVIGATING RELATIONAL PAIN
- You cannot be boss and friend at the same time.
- You need to ask: Can I live with the fact that these people who are my friends will misunderstand me and eventually leave me? Is it a sacrifice you’re willing to make? When it does work out, it’s because of calling over career.
